UTC Fire & Security goes to great lengths to develop and reward the talent we attract. A best in class employee education program, robust performance feedback process and tailored individual development plans provide our employees opportunities for continuous learning and growth.
We also ensure our high performing employees are rewarded by providing competitive compensation and benefits programs. UTC provides monetary and nonmonetary benefits to employees in exchange for their time, talents, efforts and results. We believe that employees should feel valued and rewarded for their contributions to the business.
Employee Scholar Program
UTC Fire & Security supports lifelong learning to expand our knowledge and capabilities and strives to have the best-educated workforce on the planet. The Employee Scholar Program (ESP) is one of the most comprehensive, company-sponsored, employee education programs in the world. The program provides employees the resources to stay current in their chosen field or enable new career opportunities.
UTC has invested more than $878 million to further our employees' formal education. Since 1996, more than 29,000 degrees have been earned by employees in over 50 countries. However, ESP is more than just a story based on numbers. It is about the investment that UTC makes in its people as a way of attracting and retaining a motivated and engaged workforce. Global full-time and part-time UTC employees are eligible for the program after one year of continuous service. Currently, there are over 15,000 employees participating in ESP.
Continuous Learning
Through the UTC Learning Portal Programs, we encourage all employees worldwide to recognize that learning and growth can continue throughout their careers. Our Global Learning Portal connects employees with the opportunities to enhance their skills in areas such as leadership, ethics, and job or function-specific programs. At UTC Fire & Security, training is offered in a variety of fields through internal training programs, web-based eLearning, virtual classrooms and external seminars.
Performance Feedback and Career Planning
UTC Fire & Security considers an employee's development important to the success of both the individual and company. Our robust performance management process provides the structure and resources for assessing current performance and skills, establishing individual goals and objectives, and developing a short and long term action plan to meet these goals.
Our performance feedback process helps managers focus employee effort on areas that contribute to UTC Fire & Security’s overall success. The process provides for employees to receive ample feedback regarding performance, strengths, and development needs.
We also encourage all employees to work with their supervisor to create Individual Development Plans that map a career path based on their professional career goals. The plan includes goal statements describing what skill, knowledge or experience will be developed, rationale for why developing these areas is important, and a list of activities that will be done to achieve the goals.
Compensation Philosophy
At UTC Fire & Security, our compensation programs are designed to attract, motivate and retain the best people. These programs work to provide resources for employees to meet their current and future financial needs.
We feel strongly that an employee’s pay should directly reflect his or her performance, contribution and value to the company. We strive to differentiate pay based on each employee's performance relative to his or her goals and objectives while remaining competitive within the external market place.
