Environment

UTC Fire & Security is committed to measuring and reducing the impact of our operations and products on the environment.  This value aligns with UTC, which has set aggressive conservation goals and reported publicly on performance since 1992.

At UTC Fire & Security, we have significantly reduced our environmental footprint since 2006 and continue to set goals for future reductions.  As part of UTC’s 2015 sustainability goals, we are targeting a 24percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, a 65 percent reduction in air emissions, a 36 percent reduction in water consumption, a 42 percent reduction in total waste, and a 53 percent reduction in non-recycled waste.

Increases in energy efficiency, material reuse, and recycling have helped minimize our environmental impact and we’re always looking for ways to reduce our impact in different parts of our business.  For our service businesses, we have replaced fleet vehicles with more efficient ones in South Africa, Australia and Europe.  At Kidde Fire Trainers, our modern fire training simulators use clean-burning fuels, like propane and natural gas.  In Brazil, industrial ecology efforts are underway at a manufacturing facility where fire hose waste is being turned into input for furniture and Matamoros in Mexico segregates scrap powder for re-use on site.

Recycling, eliminating waste, and reducing water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions are areas of continuous focus and integral to the way we do business.
