Kidde Launches New
Chinese Language Version of HART XL

BEIJING, China, Oct. 26, 2006 — Kidde Fire Protection announced today the launch of a new Chinese language version of its HART™ XL High Sensitivity Smoke Detection (HSSD)™ system, which will be displayed at booth 301-310, section B, during the China Fire show this week.  Kidde Fire Protection is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

The new HART XL’s graphical LCD screen is capable of displaying Chinese characters so that information including system status, real time smoke levels and other operational parameters can be conveyed much more easily and quickly to customers in China.

The HART XL system was first approved by Sheng Yang in September 2003 and is used in a wide variety of applications throughout China.  Customers include the Beijing Film Museum, the Yangtze River Three Gorges project, the Suen Yat Sin Museum and Enterprise Square in Hong Kong.

HART HSSD systems are ideal for helping to protect high value assets such as clean rooms and computer and telecomm centers because of the systems’ ability to detect invisible by products of combustion in the earliest stages of a fire. They are also widely used in applications where smoke is difficult to detect such as areas with high ceilings or with high air flow such as warehouses, cold store facilities and indoor stadiums.

HART HSSD units can be programmed to operate with up to 1,000 times more sensitivity than conventional point type smoke detectors. Alarm levels can be set as high as 0.0025 percent obscuration per meter for clean areas and up to 1 percent obscuration per meter for less controlled environments. This increased sensitivity allows the HART HSSD unit to detect and report an incident at the earliest possible stage, providing time to help minimize or prevent fire damage.

Kidde Fire Protection is part of UTC Fire & Security, a United Technologies Corp. business unit that provides fire safety and security solutions to more than one million customers throughout the world. Both UTC Fire & Security and United Technologies Corp., which provides high technology products and services to the building and aerospace industries worldwide, are headquartered in Connecticut, USA.
