Kidde Fyrnetics Debuts New Chinese Certified CO Alarm

BEIJING, China, October 26, 2006 – Kidde Fyrnetics will display its new Chinese-certified SCO-B carbon monoxide (CO) detector at booth 301-310, Section B during the China Fire Show this week.  Kidde Fyrnetics is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

Model SCO-B is a residential CO detector that has passed testing by the China National Supervision and Test Centre and is listed to the Chinese national standard GB15322.5 –2003.

The detector is powered by a 12V to 24V DC source.  Upon detection of dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, the detector provides a visual alarm indication and sends out a loud 85dB alarm sound.  The detector can also be integrated into a home central security system so that when the alarm sounds, a signal is simultaneously sent to the homeowner’s security monitoring center.

The SCO-B CO detector utilizes Kidde’s patented Nighthawk™ electrochemical CO sensor, which is among the most accurate carbon monoxide sensors in the world for residential CO detection.

Performance features include:

- Test/Reset Button that when pressed, activates a self-test of the detector and resets the alarm.
- System Test Button which when pressed activates a test of the detector’s output relay system.
- 85dB Alarm Sound: alerts home occupants when the carbon monoxide in the home reaches dangerous levels.
- Red/Green/Yellow LED: indicates respectively and distinctly the three states of the detector operation: alarm condition, normal operation and fault mode.
- Relay Output Signal Terminal: used for connection to the general/central security system or safety devices of the home/building for added protection.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning is one of the leading causes of accidental poison deaths in homes.  Odorless, tasteless and invisible, the gas is generated when there is incomplete combustion of a fuel, such as gasoline, oil, wood, or propane.  This can result from blocked chimneys or flues or the malfunctioning, or misuse of gas appliances. It can also come from running vehicle engines, or operating burners in enclosed areas.  Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning often mimic the flu and include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, muscle pains, nausea and vomiting.

The best way to protect against carbon monoxide poisoning is to install CO detectors on every level of one’s home and near sleeping areas.

In Asia, Kidde offers a full range of internationally approved safety products that include smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguishers, fire blankets, escape ladders and other life-safety products for homes and commercial buildings.
