UTC Fire & Security Opens New Global Engineering Center

FARMINGTON, Conn., May 19, 2006 -- UTC Fire & Security, a global provider of fire safety and security solutions, announced today the opening of a new state of the art engineering research and development center at the company’s headquarters in Farmington.  UTC Fire & Security is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) business unit.

The new organization will focus its efforts in two main areas.  First, the group will be responsible for helping to improve productivity across the company’s global Engineering organizations through the development of standard work, tools, and best practices.   Secondly, the group will focus on rapid prototyping and the development of several new products.

“This center offers us the opportunity to create an engineering center of excellence, to focus on organic growth opportunities and to develop technologies that can be applied across all of our product lines,” said Tom Gillis, vice president of engineering for UTC Fire & Security.

“The Security side of our business does not currently have a large product base as we are primarily service oriented.  This facility will enable us to develop new capabilities and products in market areas that we have targeted for future growth.”

The center will serve as the main design development facility at UTC Fire & Security and employ 30 engineers, 15 of whom have already been hired.  The company expects the center to be fully staffed by the end of July.  The company will continue to rely on the United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford, Conn. and the Kidde Research facility in Colnbrook, UK for its advanced product research initiatives.  Interested job candidates should visit
